About us

We are a family business made up of two sisters and their mother, who was born in S. Miguel. Casa do Cascalho has always been in our family and was built in 1971 by architect Luiz Cunha, godfather of the current owners. The house was used by the family as a second home and weekend home for many years, and has been recently restored to offer our visitors greater comfort and convenience. Our family has enjoyed fantastic times in this house and we hope that our guests can also create good moments and memories during their stay.

Where we are

The village of Fenais da Ajuda is located on the north coast of the island of S. Miguel, in the Azores. It is 41 km from the capital Ponta Delgada, and 23 km from the city of Ribeira Grande, the only city on the northern side of the island. The north coast is famous for its spectacular cliffs and small isolated villages, an idyllic landscape for those seeking tranquility and contact with nature.

At Casa do Cascalho you can enjoy the fantastic views of the entire north coast to the tip of Bretanha on the west side of the island.

What to do

From Fenais da Ajuda, trekking lovers can enjoy the walking trail of Moinhos da Ribeira Funda and the trail from Fenais da Ajuda to Lomba de S. Pedro; for beach lovers, the wild Praia da Viola and the famous Praia dos Moinhos are within short car distance; and the great tourist attractions not to be missed, such as Furnas, the tea plantations of Gorreana or the Caldeira Velha are only 20 to 40 minutes away by car.

There will be plenty of activities to enjoy your stay at our Casa do Cascalho, but the star activity of our accommodation and unique on the island is the fantastic sunset over the sea, right in front of the house.
